Sitting in the garden

Environmental constraints

The garden is a living room that pleasantly extends the house for much of the year.
But the rest of the time life is harder for the garden salon which has to face the vagaries of time.
The freezing cold in winter must be resisted: water enters through small gaps and freezing it increases in volume and deteriorates most materials.
High and prolonged moisture levels must be resisted, conducive to the development of fungi that eat away at natural matter or mosses that make surfaces slippery.
The sun warms it, but UV rays slowly destroy varnishes and transform colors. On a clear surface, reflected light dazzles, forcing you to wear sunglasses at the table, while a black surface stores heat and rises in temperature. On the seafr
ont, the salty air gnaws at the steel tubes and bleached zinged screws.

So what structure for a garden chair?

Removable, easily transportable or stackable furniture can be easily stored away from bad weather and theft. This protects your garden living room.

There are many models of folding chairs for the garden. However, the folding system imposes functional constraints and these chairs are often less comfortable and less durable. The folding brings fragility and the position of the backrest in relation to the seat is often a cause of discomfort.

There are also lightweight armchair structures, often stackable, combined with removable cushions or a braided seat. This furniture is easily stored as long as it has room under cover to store it.
Traditionally rattan or wicker are used to make these furniture or exotic woods. However, it is important to shelter the chairs during the rough seasons and in summer prolonged exposure to too dry air causes an increase in stiffness as well as a tendency to break in the thinnest parts, especially at the canning. Rotin and wicker have the advantage of pumping CO2 quickly from the atmosphere and an armchair structure requires little or no fossil energy for its realization. On the other hand, many of these pieces of furniture come from the other side of the world, from countries where labour is cheap, and their transport is then an ecological disaster.

In the twentieth century aluminum was used to replace steel. It has the advantage of being light.
As it is light we can use tubes of large diameters that will be able to be assembled with screws. This avoids the welding process, which reduces manufacturing time and processing costs. .
Aluminium can also be extruded, like pasta, and the shape of the extrusion will allow chopsticks to slip into it that will hold fabrics stretched.

But if the aluminum does not rust but it oxidizes and weakens as it ages. Its manufacture is energy-intensive and unlike wood it does not absorb CO2 to grow.

The perfect solution? the bespoke and removable wooden garden lounge.

The sofa below is fully removable and is custom made to order. You can have a product perfectly adapted to the dimensions of your balcony or your anatomy.

Wood has many ecological advantages. It absorbs CO2 to grow. It is processed all over Europe and it is not necessary to bring it from the other side of the world if you use species such as birch, spruce, beech, oak or larch. I
t can be protected by water-based UV varnishes. Panels are even available with waterproof protective films and it is only necessary to protect the songs.
An assembly of panels with slots avoids the fragility inherent in the folding system.
Moreover, the size of a panel is quickly changeable, these furniture can be custom-made according to the morphology of populations and genders. The average size of women in Switzerland or Belgium is 164 cm while the average size of men in Denmark and the Netherlands is 184 cm.

There are still some disadvantages, even if this solution seems the most interesting. Indeed, for wooden panels to be stable they are made up of layers of wood crossed glued together or wood particles pressed with resin.
